HABITS FOR HOME

UABC is a multi-generational church on purpose! There is so much we can learn from one another, as we grow together. Our Wednesday evening gatherings are strategically planned so everyone, of every age, may engage in learning together. Below are the lyrics/texts from our weekly habits for your use. We hope you (and your family) will sing, recite, and pray through these habits each day.

UPCOMING MID-WEEK SERIES:

ADVENTING ADVENT

Life is crazy, time gets away from us, and then it’s Christmastime. We do a lot to prepare for Christmas–we decorate our homes, host and attend parties, cook special treats, prepare thoughtful gifts for those we love, and sing along to our favorite Christmas carols. But what do we do to prepare our hearts?

The Advent season is a time to stop and remember all we have to celebrate and anticipate. We hope you will join us for 3 weeks in November as we explore the what, why, and how of Advent. Together, we will take a closer look at the hope, peace, joy, and love we have through Jesus. Our goal is that each person who attends will finish the 3-week series with the tools they need to observe Advent at home, throughout their day, and at church with purpose.

Adventing Advent is a multi-generational learning experience. This means all ages are welcome to come and learn from one another. We will begin eating at 6:15 PM and will start our planned activities at 6:45 PM. We will end each week at 7:30 PM.

ROMANS 12:1-2 CHANT

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you:
(here’s what I want you to do, God helping you) Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it (place it where?) before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted (well-adjusted, well-adjusted – Don’t become so well-adjusted) to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out (inside out, inside out – You’ll be changed from the inside out). Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down (dragging you down, dragging you down, dragging you down) to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you (best in you, best in you, best in you – God brings out the best in you), develops well-formed maturity in you (and you, and you, and you).

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

ONE:

Dear God, We admit we have messed up! We have not honored You with our thoughts.

ALL:

We have thought we were better than others, especially those we do not like.

ONE:

We have let worry fill our minds and distract us from how we really should be living our lives.

ALL:

We have had selfish thoughts. We have wanted what other people have and have not been thankful for what You have given us.

ONE:

We admit we have messed up! We have not honored you with our time. We have used our time to follow the footsteps of the world instead of You. We have pushed You aside for other distractions in our life.

ALL:

We have been lazy and have distracted ourselves with TVs, phones, tablets, and games. We have filled up our days with other stuff so there is not much time to even think about You. We make up all kinds of excuses to not obey You.

ONE:

We have not honored You with our actions. We have hurt others and not apologized for the pain we caused them. We have noticed others being hurtful or mean to those around us and have done nothing to help those who are bullied.

ALL:

We have tried to please others over You. We have yelled, lost our temper, and fought with others.

ONE:

We admit we have messed up! We have not honored You with our words. We have been sassy, talked about others behind their backs, and used unkind words instead of Your Truth.

ALL:

We have lied to impress others or to hide our own weakness.

ONE:

We admit we have messed up! We have not honored you with our attitudes. We have let ourselves be annoyed and angry with our friends and family. We have had bad attitudes and have not considered how our bad attitude can hurt others. We have been stubborn, believing our way is always the right way. Let’s spend a minute silently telling God all the ways we have messed up.

SILENCE

ONE:

There is good news: God has forgiven us and we have been made new! God will always love us. He cares, forgives, and heals us.

ALL:

There is much to celebrate! Jesus died on the cross for our sins so we can be with Him forever and dedicate our lives to Him. We can tell God’s story and our story with others.

ONE:

We have the choice to honor God and serve Him with our actions, thoughts, time, words, and attitudes.

ALL:

Praise God! He has forgiven all our sins, because of His love for us! He gives us another chance, again and again. Hallelujah!
