INTERNATIONAL MINISTRY

UABC is a multi-cultural, multi-generational church located less than a mile from the University of Hawai’i. Over 1,700 international students and scholars from over 200 countries have come to study at U.H. There are many physical and relational needs international students have upon arriving to a new place. As a church body, we want to make these students feel welcomed, provide opportunities for relationships, and invite them to join us in exploring God’s Story.

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

HOST FAMILY

Welcome an international student into your oikos! 80% of international students have never been in an American home. Sign up to invite an international student to your home for a meal. A mandatory training for host families will be held at UABC on August 20 at 1 PM.

CONVERSATION PARTNER

International students want to practice English with native speakers. Sign up to spend time with an international student, once a month, to talk story.

SERVE LUNCH

UABC prepares and serves lunch to internationals on the first Thursday of each month, during the school year. We need more volunteers to cook and serve the meal on Thursday mornings. This is a great way to connect with students and help meet physical needs.

TEACH ENGLISH

The International Baptist Center offers free English classes on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings. If you would like to visit a class or help with childcare, sign up here.

WELCOME TEAM

Help welcome international students to the island this fall (e.g. airport pickups, making lei & signs, grocery store runs, etc.). Sign up to be part of our welcome team.

PRAYER TEAM

Sign up to join the prayer team! The prayer team receives email updates on international student prayer needs.

SPECIAL EVENTS

UABC will host a number of special events for international students throughout the year. Sign up to help set up, cook, greet, give rides, and more!
