Fanny Crosby’s 200th Birthday
Today would have been Fanny Crosby’s 200th birthday! Fanny was an American songwriter and poet who wrote over 8,000 hymns in her lifetime! Many of these hymns are still sung in churches around the world today- in fact we just sang one this past Sunday (Blessed Assurance). Did you know that Fanny became blind as an infant? One time a preacher told her “I think it is a great pity that the Master did not give you sight when He showered so many other gifts upon you.” Her quick response was “Do you know that if at birth I had been able to make one petition, it would have been that I should be born blind?” “Why?” the surprised minister asked. “Because when I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior!” I hope you enjoy this playlist of some of Fanny’s most famous songs. #UABCWorshipWednesdays
