What does the church believe?
The Triune Nature of God
God always has been and always will be. He created life and sustains life. He has no equal. He exists in 3 distinct and equal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Spirit.
The Bible
The Bible is the inspired Word of God, relevant for daily living, and the final authority on all matters of faith.
Salvation
The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as su icient payment for their sin.
Priesthood of the Believer
Each individual follower of Christ can go directly to God without the aid of any intermediary, and can, and should, read and interpret the Bible for him/herself without religious o icials dictating what to believe.
Baptism
Biblical baptism is:
– by immersion
– for the believer
-symbolic of the death and resurrection on the believer shares with Christ
– an act of obedience
– an act of worship
Lord’s Supper/Communion
This ordinance of the church is:
– for the believer
– symbolic
– an act of obedience – an act of worship
Autonomy of the Local Church
University Avenue Baptist Church is an autonomous body of Christ followers, operating through democratic processes under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and is voluntarily affiliated with Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention (HPBC) and numerous other partner institutions at the national and global level.
MINISTRIES
FAMILY MINISTRY
LEARNING TOGETHER
UABC is a multi-generational church on purpose! There is so much we can learn from one another, as we grow together. One of the ways we practice learning together is through our Wednesday evening short-term gatherings. Learn more about our latest multi-generational learning experience.
SHARING LIFE
MINISTRY TO CHILDREN
Kids are a valued part of our church family! We believe the church is a place where kids are always welcome and can lead. As a multi-generational congregation, children are provided many opportunities to learn and serve alongside different age groups during the worship service, weekday ministry opportunities, and special events.
We take your child’s safety very seriously. Before serving any child, children’s ministry volunteers must pass a criminal background check. Each kids’ group is led by at minimum of 2 adults at all times.
The kids’ ministry team is a trained group of adults who are passionate about the spiritual formation of children. UABC kids are encouraged to be curious about God’s Story as they engage in hands-on missions education classes, Bible study groups, weekday small groups, multi-generational learning labs, and special events.
Learn more about the UABC Children’s Ministry.
MINISTRY TO PRETEENS
Our preteen small group meets on the last Friday of each month at Dani Beth Crosby’s home. This group is for children in 4-6th grade and includes crafts, games, dessert, and a Bible study. We would love for your preteen to join us! Contact Dani Beth for more information.
VOLUNTEER
Interested in serving in the children’s ministry at UABC? Contact Dani Beth Crosby, Family and Communications Minister, at danibeth@universityavenuebaptist.org for more information. Complete our criminal background check form
YOUTH MINISTRY
Our Mission is to nurture our faith community in which youth are CONNECTED as an active and integrated part of the church body; and to CHALLENGE and EMPOWER youth to become disciples and servants of Jesus Christ. All students (grades 7-12) are welcome to join our Youth Sunday School from 10:45 AM-11:45 AM in Room 3 of the Worship Center on Sunday mornings.
YOUTH NIGHT
Join us on the last Friday of each month at 6 PM for Youth Night. Each week is different, so contact Brent for details. Youth Night is for students who have completed 6th-12th grades.
MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS’ SMALL GROUP
Our middle school girls’ small group meets twice a month. This group is for girls in 6th-8th grades. Check our upcoming events page for our next small group meeting date. For more information about this small group, contact Dani Beth.
STUDENT SAFETY
We take your children’s safety seriously. In order to provide the best environment for children all adults, both employed and volunteer, who work with minors must be screened and undergone a criminal background check prior to beginning work. Complete the background check here.
COLLEGE MINISTRY
Our college small group meets every Wednesday evening from 7 PM-9 PM. For more information about this small group, contact Dani Beth or Meredith. On Sunday mornings, college students in our church family serve in various ministries or attend one of our adult Bible study groups.
INTERNATIONAL MINISTRY
UABC is a multi-cultural, multi-generational church located less than a mile from the University of Hawai’i. Over 1,700 international students and scholars from over 200 countries have come to study at U.H. There are many physical and relational needs international students have upon arriving to a new place. As a church body, we want to make these students feel welcomed, provide opportunities for relationships, and invite them to join us in exploring God’s Story. Learn how you can get involved here.
SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY
J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) Group, our monthly senior adult gathering, meets on the last Friday of each month at 10 AM. We hope you will join us for lunch and a special time together. This group is led by Ruthie and David Haitsuka.
